To deconstruct the human body as if it were a broken machine is the obsession of Vladimir Velickovic, a painter born in Belgrade in 1935. It was during his childhood, while Yugoslavia was occupied by the Nazis, that horror insinuated itself in him, becoming the essential subject, the only one that remains eternal. Doesn't he say that he "tries above all to leave a scar" in the memory of those who have seen his works? In this sense, he is one of the few contemporary painters (along with Le Chenier) following in the lineage of Soutine / Bacon.
