Free artist, passionate engraving artisan, Alain SOUCASSE's works carve out space to allow us to rethink it and allow him to tame it. On this path that leads from figurative to abstract, SOUCASSE has chosen the side roads of volume and material to express an art that is as much manual as it is intellectual. All of Alain SOUCASSE's works are done on luxurious vellum paper from the Moulin de Larroque, offering a magnificent result to the engravings.
Alain SOUCASSE is an artist in the noblest sense of the term, far from social gatherings and Parisian trends; this native of Provence actually gained his glory in Viking lands, in that distant Sweden more open to artistic renewal than secular France.
Having gone to teach stained glass technique at the Stockholm Academy of Fine Arts, young Soucasse created and found his style and audience. Having become an important figure in art in the Nordic countries, he returned to France, settled in his native region, and continued his creations, where the engraver's press is never far from the painter's brushes.
For in Soucasse, the stained glass specialist, there is a unique and natural talent to cut through space to rethink it in color, energy, and texture. And that is what makes his mark so distinctive, so recognizable; this boldness in blending techniques, in conceiving the universe as a gigantic patchwork in which everyone seeks their place, their tone.
And he, Soucasse, the traveler, has found his place! Between tradition, respect for the past, craftsmanship, and modernity of subjects and aspirations, he expresses himself freely, on his own line, never having jumped on any bandwagon, preferring to pursue his own path, so particular and fascinating.
