To keep in mind

In the 1950s, Marcel Mouly was one of those figurative artists trying to find their own path, drawing inspiration from Picasso's analytical cubism, Messagier's abstract landscapes, and Bram Van Velde's bold brushstrokes. It is by reconsidering space AND color that he succeeds, somewhere between Braque's still lifes and Matisse's Mediterranean landscapes, he invents a colorful and joyful, profound and human painting style. However, he is still just a good painter among others... "Discovered" by Opera Gallery, granting an exclusivity in lithography to Park West Gallery, suddenly Marcel MOULY is everywhere represented; suddenly Marcel MOULY is the new reference, the new sensation! Knowing how to distill his work sparingly, knowing not to disappoint all those who have fallen in love with his happy landscapes, he sees his value skyrocket over the years, regularly being the only living artist to have each of his works sold at auction. He passed away on the night of January 6th to 7th, 2008, just before his 90th birthday, leaving his works to soar even higher under the hammer of auctioneers.
