Jean-Pierre Bertaux Marais, born in 1936, is a French artist of international renown. After successfully completing his secondary education, he enrolled in the Merchant Marine school in Nantes. For several years, he traveled the world multiple times. However, his passion for painting led him to abandon his seafaring career at the age of 24, and in 1960, he joined the Fine Arts school in Paris. Bertaux Marais is particularly known for his representations of the sea, with a preference for the Breton coasts whose veiled and humid tones deeply inspire him. Nevertheless, Provence and the Greek islands, with their brilliant light and the transparency of the Mediterranean, also attract him, allowing him to fully express his artistic sensitivity.
