Karel Appel, a Dutch painter and sculptor, is one of the co-founders of the CoBrA group. Inspired by Van Gogh and figurative Expressionism, he adopts a gestural, primitive, and spontaneous expression characterized by bright and often daring colors.
His works are exhibited at the Centre Pompidou, MoMA, Tate Modern and the Rijksmuseum.
