Inspiration, influence

His masters were Filippo Lippi, a Florentine painter with whom he trained and who instilled in him a taste for elegant faces and soft colors. The second was Andrea del Verrocchio, who taught him to work on monumental panels and approach solemn subjects. The last one was Antonio del Pollaiolo, who taught him the energetic line of movement and the expressive forms that allowed him to achieve a realistic representation.

His contemporaries

Leonardo da Vinci, Perugino, Cosimo Rosselli

To keep in mind

He is one of the major painters of the Italian Renaissance. As early as 1470, he received public commissions that allowed him to achieve true fame. The Medicis, who then ruled Florence, were his patrons. It was for a cousin of Lorenzo de Medici, known as Lorenzo the Magnificent, that he painted his two major works, "Primavera" (1482) and "The Birth of Venus" (1485).

To go further

Botticelli's lyricism is one of his particularities, as well as his emphasis on grace and elegance. Botticelli is the painter of beauty par excellence!
