Artistic movements

Nicolas de Crécy is a French comic book author and illustrator. His style is characterized by a strong influence of German expressionism and baroque art, combining striking graphic elements with a complex and poetic narrative.

Inspiration, influence

His artistic influences include artists such as Otto Dix, James Ensor, Edward Hopper, Egon Schiele, and David Hockney. He is also inspired by literary authors such as Henri Michaux, Samuel Beckett, and Joris-Karl Huysmans. In comics, he admires Muñoz and Sampayo, Lorenzo Mattotti, and Enki Bilal. Lastly, his cinematic influences include Federico Fellini, Jean-Luc Godard, and Miloš Forman.

His contemporaries

He worked alongside Sylvain Chomet, in particular on projects such as The Old Lady and the Pigeons and The Triplets of Belleville.

To keep in mind

Draftsman and writer from Lyon, Nicolas De Crecy graduated from the School of Comic Art at the Angoulême School of Fine Arts in 1987 (1st promotion). Combining structured drawing with smart and very corrosive humor, De Crecy is part of this new generation of comic book artists who have also worked in animation. His work, particularly on the decay of our cities and buildings, is very personal, extremely interesting, and displays great maturity.
