Cubism emerged in 1907 with the work of Pablo Picasso (Les Demoiselles d'Avignon) and Georges Braque (Le Grand Nu and Maisons à l'Estaque).
During the Analytical Cubism phase (the triumphant period of the movement), other painters such as Juan Gris, Robert Delaunay, his wife Sonia Delaunay, and Fernand Léger explored similar themes to diversify the movement.
By analyzing all possible perspectives of their subject (object and then model), cubist artists recomposed their canvas. They disassembled, reassembled, and juxtaposed these different views side by side on the canvas, thus abolishing space.
Cubism, which profoundly revolutionized art, persisted until the 1920s and underwent a "Post-Cubist" evolution in the 1950s and 60s, notably with painters like Claude Venard, and later still with artists like Marcel Mouly.
