Biography of Édouard Goerg

It is in Australia, in 1893, that Édouard GOERG is born. He leaves Sydney in his early youth and early on dedicates himself to painting. He is notably a student of Sérusier.
As a soldier during the First World War, his painting will be strongly marked for the twenty years following, where his style at the time connects him to the surrealist school (this first period of his work is now recognized and highly prized).
After the Second World War, he becomes THE French representative of expressionism with his famous flower-girls that are reminiscent of the universe of Egon Schiele or Oskar Kokochka.

Édouard GOERG, Knight of the Legion of Honor, passed away in 1969, leaving behind a work that was then only recognized by critics. But the 1980s would do him justice by propelling him to the firmament of the Great Masters of the 20th century.
