Biography of Louis Icart

Louis ICART, born in Toulouse in 1888, was the only artist of the "Art Deco" period to combine the elegance of "Rococo", the flamboyance of Art Nouveau, and a modern sense of movement and gesture.

Using models with modern features (high heels, lipstick, and short hair) and seamlessly integrating the fashion of his time, Icart portrayed a sweet and alluring image of Paris during the "Art Deco" period.

He was immensely popular in his time in France, but also in the United States, where he was nicknamed "The Parisian Dreamer". He notably illustrated "La Nuit et le Moment" by Claude-Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon.
